I was on a panel the other day about ebook pricing for O’Reilly’s Tools of Change for Publishing, Online Conference. Included in the panel were: Michael Tamblyn, VP Sales at Shortcovers; Trip Adler CEO Scribd; Neelan Choksi, CEO Lexcycle/Stanza. And the panel was moderated by Joe Wikert, Publisher at O’Reilly.
If you attended the event, you can hear the audio here.
Not sure if that will be made available to the wider public eventually?

Did they mention anything about audio books? I can’t imagine there be a market if they are offering free audio books on site like librevox and newfiction.com
The free audiobooks from LibriVox are public domain only – basically old books. I’m not sure about NewFiction.com – but I did not see Dan Brown or Stephen King.
So in my opinion, while LibriVox and New Fiction etc will drive interest in audiobooks, there will always be lots of content not available for free (legally) that people will want. That is, I suspect that free audiobooks drives interest in for-pay audiobooks.
Audio books are the best, I always listen to them at work. Keeps me awake :)
