Top 10 Comic Book Cities

From the Architects’ Journal, comes a top 10 list (neat idea!) of the best comic book cities, with descriptions, as in this bit about Daredevil’s New York:

But Miller and Mazzuchelli captures the city’s glamour too: Hotel lobbies have magenta-coloured walls and exotic potted plants. A penthouse office overlooks Manhattan’s twin towers. Slick high rise towers – International style – glow yellow in the sun.

And factoids, eg, re: Gotham:

Great name eh? Want to know why it’s called that? Batman co-creator Bill Finger explains: ‘Originally I was going to call Gotham City “Civic City”. Then I tried Capital City, then Coast City. Then I flipped through the phone book and spotted the name “Gotham Jewelers” and said, “That’s it”, Gotham City. We didn’t call it New York because we wanted anybody in any city to identify with it.’

And of course, artwork:

In terms of Marvel, New York is the only city. 90% of their characters are from New York. 5% are from space. 4% from the future. 1% other.
