The Greater Than $9.99 Kindle Boycott

Pre-Kindle, I rarely bought hardcover books. I’d reserve them at the library or wait for them to come out in paperback. But after I got my Kindle, I found myself buying many $9.99 Kindle editions that I would not have bought in hardcover. Publishers, do you hear that? You were making sales you would not have otherwise made…

Kindle owners have organized a boycott of Kindle editions over $9.99. The uprising is ably helped by Amazon’s own online tools: the 9.99 boycott community and a boycott discussion forum. Cleverly, the boycotters are using the Amazon tags feature to tag books over $9.99 with the 9.99boycott tag. Boy, if I were a publisher or author, I sure wouldn’t want to see my books listed at the top of the tag’s “Popular Products” under the boycott tag. [more...]
