I pick up lots of audiobooks through www.bookins.com for road trips but I just can't make myself consider them for reading "literature." It's too much like Cliff Notes, I guess. I get the gist of the plot but unless I've seen the words on the pages -- all of them -- I can't truly say I've "read" the book. But your project sounds interesting!
