Amazon’s CFO Thomas Szkutak claims that buying a Kindle makes you more likely to by a real, old fashioned, paper, ink earthly book:
“Post the purchase of a Kindle, owners buy 1.6 times as many book titles and the same amount of physical book.”
This has always been my feeling about books, ebooks, free books, free digital, audio books and all the rest. The thing about reading is it makes for more reading. Maybe as you are able to read in more & different places (with ebook readers or iphones, for instance), you read more, and hence become less interested in other media. Maybe things like ebooks actually eat into TV, radio, movie sales more than they eat into book sales.
True? We’re not sure yet… but let’s hope so.
